Luxurious hotels in Malaysia
Beaches and skyscrapers. That’s what you’ll find in Malaysia, a tropical nation spanning the South China Sea.
Neither fashionably modern nor thoroughly antiquated, Kuala Lumpur is a colourful jigsaw of colonial, Moorish, Moghul, Malay and Victorian architecture. It’s not as sophisticated as New York or as glitzy as the Gold Coast – in fact more often than not, you’ll see glittering high-rises rubbing shoulders with ornate, atmospheric temples. Yet KL is undeniably appealing and boasts enough architectural interest to keep you busy for a few days at least.
There’s a healthy backpacker scene in Kuala Lumpur, but as time goes on the city is steadily progressing and becoming a Mecca of glamour – the result is luxury ventures mushrooming all over the place. Easily the most popular luxury lodging quadrant in KL is Jalan Bukit Bintang. Dubbed the pulse of the city, the area is best described as the equivalent of Singapore’s Orchard Road. You’ll find some of the best eats in the city along Jalan Alor (a wide thoroughfare in the same area). Meanwhile the Golden Triangle, KL Sentral, KLCC and Mid Valley areas play host to a smorgasbord of opulent accommodation choices.
Cultivate a taste for colonial splendour in mountainous tea plantations, take in Portuguese-style cathedrals and luxuriate on beaches of powdery sand.
