CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Tanjung Aru offers a unique spa design concept – a stand-alone “spa village” sits on an “island” connected to the hotel via a private causeway. Each of the eight villas has its own herbal steam room, spacious relaxation area and private changing room. A private yoga pavilion with a deck extending out over the South China Sea offers spectacular sunset views. In traditional Chinese philosophy, “chi” or “Qi” is the universal life force that governs well-being and personal vitality. For people to maintain good health, it is believed that “chi” must flow freely within the body and, when blocked, “dis-ease” and illness follow. Movement is therefore a key element in releasing blockages. Body massage, exercise, stretching, hydrotherapy, and movement of the mind through relaxation and meditation combine to assist the body’s natural renewal and form the basis of the CHI spa philosophy.

The resort’s pool is a whopping 2,000-square-metre cool respite from the tropical heat and comes complete with tapered shoreline for children, a Jacuzzi and infinity pool section for adults.

Nature Reserve (Rasa Ria)
Take the shuttle to our sister resort, Rasa Ria, where you’ll find a unique 64-acre Nature Reserve featuring Sabah’s icon, the Orang Utan. The Nature Reserve is aimed primarily at nature conservation and Orang Utan rehabilitation. The Rehabilitation Programme for Orang Utans which is carried out at the Nature Reserve is the only one of its kind on the west coast of the state of Sabah, with Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Sandakan on the East Coast of the state being the main Orang Utan rehabilitation centre in the country.

The Reserve is also home to a wide spectrum of Sabah wildlife, such as two species of deer, long-tailed macaques, pheasants, civets, bear cat, masked musang, monitor lizard, water hens, porcupines, slow lorises, pangolins, pitcher plants, fruit bats and 63 species of birds.

Exclusive to guests and club members, the Health Club is fitted with the latest gym equipment in addition to dedicated areas for cardio, weights, Pilates and personal training, complemented with a juice bar, sauna and male and female orientated zones.

Child Programs

The resort provides babysitting services for children aged four and above only when the Kids Club is not open. Priced at RM30 per hour, bookings are advised to be made at least one day in advance. Potties, cribs and necessary baby wares are also available.

Parents can drop their children off anytime of the day between the hours of 10am to 6pm and the resort’s professionally trained, English speaking staff will supervise and keep the children amused while parents relax in the sun or explore the sights of Sabah.

Connecting rooms are also available for parents and children, as well as the option of extra beds to allow the family to share one room.
