Fennel Restaurant

The opening of the Arena Copacabana Hotel in 2009 brought a fresh twist to the privileged lineup of seafront hotels in Copacabana.

In October 2010, the Arena Copacabana took a further step in making Rio’s classic beach appealing to tourists with the opening of the fully redesigned Fennel, intended to be a spot worth visiting no matter where you’re staying in Rio.

Like more famous beachfront hotel restaurants in Copacabana – star-studded Le Pré Catelan at the Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Copacabana and Cipriani at the Copacabana Palace – Fennel has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beach. The ambience is glossy and sparse, with granite floors and low-key table treatments.

The name of the restaurant represents its two mainstays – fine cuisine by chef Eduardo Sousa (formerly from the Copacabana Palace) and the creations of chef pâtissière Simone Domingos (formerly from the Copacabana Palace, Garcia & Rodrigues, Albamar). The fennel, an herb which lends itself to salty dishes as well as to pastries and confections, sums up the restaurant’s concept with a good compromise.
