First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city – brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times.

While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-storey Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.

A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest.

Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivalled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times.

Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a luxury property, in 2003.

For those who love spa and wellness, Budapest – known to many as the City of Healing Waters – has a unique appeal. It was the Romans who first developed the 118 naturally-occurring thermal springs, producing some 70 million litres of warm, therapeutic water each day and not surprisingly, ‘taking the waters’ is still a national pastime.

Fittingly for the city’s premier luxury hotel, the Corinthia Hotel’s Royal Spa is quite simply one of the premier pampering facilities in the whole of Europe.

While the crowning centrepiece of this elegant Art Deco building is the recently-refurbished 15-metre pool, originally opened as a ‘bathing facility’ in 1903, our extensive menu of 21st century treatments includes Niagara bathtubs, tropical rain showers and mud and seaweed baths, as well as a range of luxury therapeutic and massage treatments. Our spacious 1,000 m² facility also boasts a dedicated fitness room, saunas, steam bath and jacuzzi, together with various relaxation areas.

Spa products are provided by the renowned French beauty specialist Phytomer, whose marine-based, skin-friendly toiletries and cosmetics range is rich in the beneficial minerals and vitamins found naturally in the sea.

An integral part of the reborn Corinthia Hotel Budapest, access to the spa and wellbeing complex is via the hotel itself or the Erzsébet Boulevard. Designed to promote perfect rest, relaxation and tranquility.

In order to keep the relaxing ambiance of our Spa, please note that children under the age of 16 are allowed to use the Royal Spa every day only between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied at all times by an adult who is competent in swimming.

Duck has been roasted in Chinese tradition since the Northern and Southern Dynasties. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was one of the favourite meals of the Emperor. By the mid-20th century, Peking duck had become a national symbol of China, favoured by tourists and diplomats alike. The Peking duck became an exclusive Chinese meal as it was served for the political delegations coming to China. Henry Kissinger, Richard Nixon, Fidel Castro, and Helmut Kohl are only some of the great leaders of the world who favoured eating this outstanding meal. Today, it is considered to be a meal for the wealthier social groups.
